Peter Handke (born December 6, 1942 in Griffen) is an Austrian novelist, playwright, translator, poet, film director and writer of screenplays. In the late 1960s, he was recognized for works such as the play Publikumsbeschimpfung (Offending the Audience) and the novel Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter (The Goalie's Anxiety at the Penalty Kick). Handke's most haunting novel describes the suicide of his mother in 1971, he reflected her life in the novel Wunschloses Unglück (A Sorrow Beyond Dreams).The book is preceded by a Bob Dylan-quote as motto: "He not busy being born is busy dying" from the song 'It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)'.
